Little Brown And Green Friends

This afternoon, we were joined by a small friend we haven’t seen in quite a few weeks.

Actually, make that two small friends.

As I was standing inside the house looking out on the deck, I noticed a small, brown shape moving slowly across the deck. When I stepped outside, I saw this little guy.

I walked back inside, called the small people, and stepped out again. One at a time, the kids slipped outside to check out the gecko.

Then, as we were standing there, I saw a flash of green out of the corner of my eye, and suddenly we were all creeping over to the other side of the deck.

I have no idea why, after many weeks without one single gecko sighting, we suddenly had two at once. The two geckos didn’t appear to be together, either, which seems a bit strange to me. Don’t they want to hang out with their own kind? In truth, I don’t know the social habits of geckos and whether they tend to hang out in groups or as singletons, but these geckos were on opposite sides of the deck and appeared to be oblivious to each other.

Then again, maybe they were married.

Anyhow, the green gecko moved around the side of the house, so the small people all moved back to the brown gecko, crouched low, and watched it crawl about the deck.

At one point, even LCB crouched down low to watch the gecko. I won’t show the picture of that, however, as it shows LCB’s pre-bald spot distinguished signs of aging in a slightly unfavorable light.

This disclosure may lead to a short time of hanging out on opposite sides of the deck for us. But you all know I’m all about truth in blogging.

  1. I’ve wanted a gecko ever since I can remember, so it’s safe to say that I’d be crawling around the deck with your Small People trying to get a better look. What’s holding me back, you (didn’t) ask? Bugs. I don’t willingly bring bugs into my home, regardless of whether they are to be food for something else. That and Bacon Slayer won’t let me. 😉

    1. I agree with you on the bug front. I wouldn’t want to have to feed them. They’re much better in nature, I think. ‘Course, I also think this because right now, I really don’t need one more thing/animal to maintain.

  2. How cool! I miss our beach geckos. My 2nd son called all brown geckos “Mocha” and green geckos “Horatio”. He thought they needed names and followed him around since he saw them everywhere we went. He’s very upset that his friends didn’t follow him to our new beach-less home.

    1. Love the names! I’ll have to share these with my kids. Sorry you are living in a gecko-less area now, although I’m guessing you’re finding new animals that are regulars at your new home. It’s funny how you often take those sorts of things for granted until they’re gone.

  3. So neat. I don’t mind reptiles, but I agree with not wanting to bring bugs into the house on purpose. The stink bugs and spiders do a good enough job of that on their own. I love how bright green the second one is.

    1. Thanks. I love it when they’re bright green, too. I always picture a designer developing a coastal color palette around that shade of green.
