An Island Mom is two today! So, to show my appreciation for all of you, I’m giving away this beach hut canvas by artist Jann Tayloe to one lucky reader.
It’s simple. To enter, either like An Island Mom on Facebook, follow me on Twitter, or comment on this blog on any posts published between Friday, March 29 and Friday, April 12. You may enter multiple times via all three avenues.
Come celebrate with me! I can’t wait to hear from you all!
Congratulation on your two-year anniversary! It has been very enlightening for me to follow your adventures. As a midwesterner, I am envious of your weather and proximity to the ocean! I am glad that you have been able to continue your blog after returning to teaching.
Thanks so much! It’s been really fun to write, and it was one of my goals to maintain An Island Mom while teaching even if it drove me to insanity. And as it turns out, however, it does quite the opposite; after hanging out with high schoolers all day, it’s a great outlet.
In fact, we were just talking about your neck of the wood in class today, since we just started the novel Peace Like a River.
I’ve never heard of that novel so I Googled it – what did we do before the internet and cell phones? Looks very interesting, are you teaching in a public school? I don’t mean to sound ignorant because it looks like it is written in a very thought provoking way, but it seems like schools have become so afraid to allow anything that would suggest the existance of any religion or ethnic group. I hope you post some of your themes and activites like you have for other works you teach.
Assuming you like fiction, you should read it! So many people love it. I’ve just started it with my students, and it’s my first time teaching it, so I’m curious to see what they’ll think. Yes, it can be a challenge to teach books that deal with religious issues, but then again, if you take out all books with any challenging subjects and any controversy whatsoever, it’s usually pretty slim (and boring) pickings. I do encourage my students to discuss most things with their parents and to get their parents’ viewpoints on the matter, whether it be a book we are reading or an issue that comes up in class for whatever reason. And yes, I already have a couple of activities I plan to post on it. 🙂
Love the beach hut an your blog!
So glad you like it! Thanks for commenting. 🙂
I would love this painting to hang in my post-Sandy, remodeled beach house!
So sorry to hear you had to endure Sandy, but I’m glad to hear you have or are in the process of remodeling your beach house. I wish I had one to give to all the Sandy survivors!
What a fun and sweet painting!! I really want to live in a beach town some day…, right now I’m experiencing the opposite end of the spectrum, NYC.
Love the painting! Such beautiful colors.. 🙂
Congratulations on your 2 years!!! I am in the midst of remodeling and I am doing a whole beach theme room…this would be perfect to add!!!
Congrats on your first 2 years and many more to come. We are moving from cold Buffalo,NY to Sarasota,Fl this summer and this would make the perfect first piece of decor in our new house…. 🙂
Thanks! Good luck with the move!
I’m so glad I found your site. I try to read the “beachy” sites every day since I’m from Upstate NY but hope to retire to a beach life some day. Congratulations on your anniversary. The canvas print is wonderful.
Love that beach hut canvas….its beautiful and I want to win it!!
I, too, have a dream of one day living on the coast. I’m pure coastal! Love all things beach. I live in Memphis and am landlocked – closest beach is on the Gulf Coast at 7 hours away. But one day, I will have a “cracker” house across from the beach, sell my Homemade gourmet pops on the beach, and enjoy listening to the surf.
I love this painting. My house is decorated in beach style, so it would go perfect.
Congrats on your anniversary. I love island life and will be following you from
now on. Put me on a beach and I’m one happy lady!! See you on FB
This land-locked midwesterner who longs to live near the beach loves your blog! Thanks for letting me “visit” the beach every time I come here!!

That’s awesome!!! U are living the dream baby!!!!
I love looking at your Pictures..As I live right by the Ocean also on 10/29/2013 we were hit very bad by Sandy and lost out beaches and boardwalk….I live in Rockaway Park NY..There are working on getting Sand in and putting part of the Boardwalk back for the summer …But it will be a vry long time before the whole 8 miles will be up and open again…So looking at your pictures brings me back to the time before Sandy
Thank for you beautiful art work you bring to me all day 🙂
I can’t imagine how difficult that must be. My prayers are with everyone trying to recover and rebuild after Sandy. I hope at least some of the beaches and some of the boardwalk can be rebuilt in time for you to enjoy this summer. Keep us posted.
Happy Anniversary!! Love your blog..

Congrats on your 2nd Anniversary. I so miss the water. I lived on a lake til a year ago which ended when my dream home experience & it ended sadly because of a serious illness that progressively has gotten worse & turned my life inside out & upside down. I love your pictures & stories. They take me back even for a short time to that peacefulness. Thanks for sharing them with us 🙂 Best of luck & Enjoy every minute of your Blessings!!!!!
Thank you so much! I’ll keep you in my prayers.
Im a beach Mom myself…Love having you as a friend! You are so talented!
Congrats on your two years living by the water. I live on a lake and just love it so much. Nature is full of exciting things to see, know and learn about and there is always something going on. I love the painting and I like your humor in your writings 🙂
I’m an island person at heart but have lived in the desert for 30+ years. We have lots of sand but no water! I found you today and look forward to reading your posts!. The lovely painting caught my eye and I stopped to see what you are all about. When I’m by the ocean I feel like I can really breathe. Can’t wait to read all about you.
I love reading your blog! The painting is fabulous! Thanks for the chance to win it 🙂
Flip Flop greetings ! I grew up in Palos Verdes, CA so a beach girl all the way. your art is so colorful and whimsical, I love that <3 If I won it I'd give it to a friend who had to leave the Navy due to some health issues she had. She loved the Navy so for her to get that Medical Discharge, broke her up.
I love this canvas! I’d use it daily to visualize myself living at the beach. *sigh*
Love the painting! Would make a great b-day gift to self.
I think this adorable painting by this incredible artist would look MAGNIFICANT in our new business Hullabaloo, which of course, is all about the whimsical lifestyle of coastal N.C.
Beautiful painting! Would love to have it!
Hi Jann. You do beautiful work and are very talented! So good to hear what’s going on with you. We live in Mooresville, NC definitely a far cry from the beautiful place you are at. We are even neighbors (within walking distance….about 1/2 mile) from Dale Earnhart Jr.’s home. Sad thing we are not race fans so living here isnt such a bi!g deal. Lol. Anyway, congrats on your 2 yr. Anniversary!
Happy 2nd Anniversary! Love your blog! That painting is absolutely adorable!
Once again, congrat’s on the anniversary. This is such a cool give away. It would look great at my house. 🙂
