The tide changes have been rather dramatic these last couple of weeks, both in the ocean and in the surrounding waterways.
One of our local hangout spots, for instance, on average looks something like this:
But the last unusually low tide left it like this:
Then, one evening earlier this week, during a full moon, I stepped out on my deck to see the tide rising up into my yard. Forgive my pictures: the light was quickly fading, the humidity kept my lens in a constant state of fog, and the photographer maintained her usual ineptitude. But you can see the water filling the better part of my neighbor’s yard, claiming land I’ve yet to see it claim in the two years I’ve lived on the salt marsh.
As long as the sea doesn’t reach my house, however, you won’t hear me protest.
Full moons and high tides bring with them a world reminiscent of that which once was, so very long ago, when seas were first gathered to make way for the land and all that it was destined to someday hold.

On an entirely different note, next on the agenda is an update that will include details on my newest teaching venture. If I can find the time to put it to paper, methinks this year is gonna be good.
